These Community Guidelines (“Guidelines”) set out the standards of behaviour we expect from everyone who uses UniBites (the “Service”). By creating an account or otherwise using UniBites, you agree to follow these Guidelines. They work alongside our Privacy Policy and any other terms that apply to the Service. We may update these Guidelines from time to time, and your continued use of UniBites after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated version.
These Guidelines apply to all members of UniBites, including students, contributors, moderators, and administrators, regardless of account type or subscription status. They cover all features of the Service, including recipes, reviews, reactions, bookmarks, SnackSnap posts, direct messages, group chats, university groups, and any other content or communication you create or share through UniBites.
Treat other members with courtesy and respect at all times. We do not tolerate harassment, hate speech, bullying, threats, or personal attacks. Disagreement is welcome when it is about the food, the recipe, or the technique — never about the person. Repeated or targeted rudeness, mocking, or intimidation may result in content removal, a warning, or account suspension, even where no single message would breach these Guidelines on its own.
UniBites is a collaborative cookbook, and its value depends on the honesty of what members share. You must not upload misleading, fabricated, spammy, or plagiarised content, and you must not present someone else's recipe, photograph, or writing as your own. Where you adapt or are inspired by another creator's work, credit them. Reviews should reflect your genuine experience, and photos should show real dishes you have made or received, not stock or promotional images.
You may not use UniBites to share content that is illegal, sexual, violent, or that promotes dangerous, self-harming, or criminal behaviour. This includes unsafe cooking practices, instructions for dangerous substances, or anything that could put another member or the public at risk. Recipes and discussion involving alcohol are permitted only within responsible, age-appropriate, and lawful contexts; we may remove content that we believe encourages misuse. You are solely responsible for ensuring that anything you share complies with all applicable laws.
Do not share another person's personal information — such as their real name, contact details, location, or private messages — without their consent. Do not attempt to collect, scrape, or store information about other members from UniBites for any purpose outside the Service. Use the reporting and blocking tools provided rather than taking matters into your own hands.
UniBites exists for cooking, not advertising. You may not post promotional links, mass-duplicate content, unsolicited messages, or use the Service to drive traffic to external sites, products, or services. Pyramid schemes, get-rich-quick offers, phishing, and any attempt to deceive or defraud other members are strictly prohibited and may result in immediate suspension and referral to the relevant authorities where appropriate.
You may only create one account, and the information you provide when registering must be accurate. You must not impersonate another person, brand, or organisation, or use a username, photo, or profile that could reasonably mislead others about who you are. Account sharing is not permitted; you are responsible for all activity carried out from your account, so keep your login details secure.
Direct messages, group chats, and streaks are intended for friendly, genuine conversation. Do not use them to harass, spam, pressure, or threaten other members. Streaks are a fun way to stay in touch and should never be used to coerce or annoy anyone. In-app voice calls should be used respectfully — do not make unwanted or harassing calls, and do not leave abusive voicemail messages. You can leave any conversation at any time, block another member, and report messages or calls that breach these Guidelines. We may review messages and call metadata where they are reported to us, and we may take action in line with Section 10.
You can report recipes, reviews, accounts, messages, or SnackSnap posts that you believe break these Guidelines using the in-app reporting tools. Our moderators review reports and may remove content, issue warnings, restrict features (including messaging, groups, or SnackSnap access), or suspend or permanently ban accounts where appropriate. We act on the information available to us and aim to be fair and proportionate, but we reserve the right to remove content or take action without notice where we consider it necessary to protect the community or the Service.
Where a breach occurs, the action we take will depend on its nature, severity, and whether it is repeated. Consequences may include: removal of the offending content; a formal warning recorded against your account; temporary suspension of specific features such as messaging or recipe creation; temporary suspension of your account; or permanent termination of your account. Serious or illegal behaviour may be reported to the relevant authorities. We are not obliged to provide a warning before taking action where we consider the breach serious enough.
If you believe a moderation decision affecting you was made in error, you can appeal by contacting us through the Contact page. Please include the details of the decision and the reasons you believe it was incorrect. We will review the appeal and respond, although our decision following review is final.
UniBites provides the platform for members to share and discover recipes, but we do not endorse, verify, or guarantee the accuracy, safety, or nutritional content of any recipe, review, or other contribution on the Service. You use UniBites at your own risk, and you should use your own judgement — including checking for allergens and following safe food-handling practices — before cooking anything you find here.
If you have any questions about these Guidelines, or wish to report conduct that affects you, you can reach us through the Contact page or by writing to hello@unibites.co.uk.
